Fall Weather Brings Fun Fall Events

When I drove in to work this morning I noticed the trees on campus are starting to turn beautiful shades of yellow and orange. The weather has been in the mid 60′s this week, the leaves are changing colors, and students are excited to be hosting fun fall events on campus and in the local community. I’ve provided some information about some of the upcoming fall events below:

Today the Lacrosse team is hosting a tailgate at the soccer game at 4:30pm. Come out to support Sweet Briar as they take on Hollins!

This weekend the Chaplain’s Office and the Campus Events Organization are hosting two fall events-tailgating at the Hampden-Sydney football game and a trip to the local Garlic festival.

SBC and HSC Chaplain’s offices are so-sponsoring a non-alcoholic tailgate at HSC on Saturday, October 12. If you are interested in driving please e-mail fortner15@sbc.eduin order to find out the “perks” involved if you volunteer to drive! The group will be meeting in the Post Office at 9:45am and will return after the game! You can sign up in the CHAPLAIN’S OFFICE at anytime!

This Saturday, the Student Activities Representatives (StARS) are hosting a trip to the local fall Garlic festival in Amherst. Contact StARS at stars@sbc.edu for more information.

Next week Caring Sisters is hosting a tailgate at the home soccer game against Randolph soccer on Wednesday, October 16. The tailgate festivities will begin at 4:30 pm.

On October 19, the Campus Events Organization (CEO) is hosting a Fright Night event at 8pm-midnight in the FAC. Be on the lookout for emails and fliers with more information.

Homecoming & Families Weekend

This weekend we will welcome parents, family members, and alumnae for Homecoming & Families Weekend. There will be activities for students, families, and alumnae including a State of the College address by President Jo Ellen Parker on Saturday. Families are encouraged to explore the campus through an official tour, “classroom crawl” which will highlight the newly updated classrooms on campus, or join the Outdoor Programs instructors on a hike. We hope to see families at the Hunter Trials and soccer game on Saturday and at the fall Musical, “The King & I” which occurs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Students will have ample opportunities to connect with alumnae including the “Sweet Connections” social hosted by the alumnae group Black Pearls. We encourage students to attend the events even if family members are unable to attend. Click here for the full schedule.

Freshmen 15

You’ve probably heard people mention the Freshmen 15.
Freshmen 15: when students gain an average of 15 pounds during their first year in college.
We want to help your daughter avoid the Freshmen 15!

The Office of First Year Programs and the Athletic Department are hosting an Open House today and tomorrow in the gym.
The athletic department staff will be hosting tours of the Cardio & Weight Room at the following times:
Monday, September 5th at 3pm
Tuesday, September 6th at 7pm

We want students to drop by to learn how to use the equipment and get in shape!

Students can also register for door prizes!

Students are encouraged to check out www.mystudentbody.com for more information on nutrition, exercise, stress, healthy life choices, and more.
Students can create an account using “vixen” as the school code.

Another new Sweet Briar Youttube video! This one features our amazing Riding Program. I hope you enjoy the video which can be found here. One of our first year students, Catherine Marcks, was featured on the video.
